Abstract

In March 2026, the Superior Council of the University of Buenos Aires approved the creation of the Specialization Program in Microelectronics, offered in a distance-learning format and administered by the Faculty of Engineering (FIUBA). In a global context where integrated circuits have become a strategic resource and the demand for specialized professionals far exceeds the available supply, this academic initiative emerges as a response to a significant educational gap at both the national and regional levels. This article describes the conceptual foundations, educational objectives, graduate profile, and curriculum structure of the program, which has been designed to train specialists capable of addressing the design, implementation, and validation of integrated circuits. Furthermore, the article analyzes the program’s implications for strengthening Argentina’s scientific and technological ecosystem and highlights its contribution to fostering collaboration between academia and the productive sector.
